Carpe Noctem

Subject: Horror / Marginalia
Category: Magazine
Country of Origin: USA

Carpe Noctem, a beautifully designed Dark Culture Magazine, is filled with interviews, fiction, art, photography, reviews and articles that all give its readers glimpses into the less travelled places in all media. Competently filling a void in a market that is desperately searching for a way to understand the darker aspects of the Human condition, it's been widely received as the only publication that stands at the forefront of this search.

Carpe Noctem is published bi-monthly by artists Catia and Carnell, who bring their life-long investigations of the darker realms of life to bear in a stunning Elyseum for the eyes. Hailed by many in the literary, comic, film and entertainment media as "the industry standard of 'dark publications'" (Leilah Wendell, curator, The Westgate), Carpe Noctem is a treatise celebrating the macabre.

Within the lushly illustrated pages are pictorials featuring artists both well-known and obscure, product reviews investigating games, music and books which cater to the Cimmerian aspect, and, most notably, interviews with the people who define the genre within which they work. The pages of Carpe Noctem have featured such luminaries as filmmakers Clive Barker, Robert Rodriguez, Mick Garris, and Stuart Gordon; musicians Rozz Williams, Faith and the Muse, Muslimgauze, and Love Spirals Downwards; artists Dave McKean, Jon J. Muth, Frank Miller and David Mack; among others.

Now, with their highly successful association with graphic wizards Bleeding Edge Media, Carpe Noctem has begun an exciting new chapter in their development. Catia and Carnell have added more pages, increased the frequency with which they publish, and added a sophisticated production facility to enhance what is already a unique and provocative publication.

With its gorgeously brooding design and black wit, Carpe Noctem deserves a high spot in the Gothic pantheon
    Poppy Z. Brite
Carpe Noctem combines an elegant graphic style with an intelligent, respectful look at our otherwise disreputable genre. I eagerly anticipate the next issue.
Mick Garris, Director ABC-TV's The Shining
A sharp, entertaining, and beautiful journal for those of us in the business of making visual, verbal, or sonic horror. Carnell's interviews are respectful and knowledgeable and can provide an introduction to other craftsmen in the industry who might otherwise be invisible and/or impossible to find.
    Diamanda Galas, chanteuse/author
